There is a reason South Florida is synonymous with great golf. That reason is Trump National Doral Miami. First opening its doors in 1962, Trump Doral was fashioned with golf at its core. And today more so than ever, under the stewardship of Donald J. Trump, guests will find that it has become one of the preeminent golf resorts in the country. Trump National Doral is host to scores of professional golfers across five different courses, including arguably one of golf’s most famous – the brand new Blue Monster Course. With this most recent course transformation, Trump Doral continues to redefine the essence of golf resorts – and quite possibly the grandeur of the sport itself.
The TPC BLUE MONSTER
The TPC Blue Monster at Doral, home of the World Golf Championships-CA Championship, has hosted prestigious PGA TOUR events for the past 45 years. In fact, virtually every great name in golf has had a moment of glorious personal triumph on this world-class track. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, golfers won’t find a more challenging or spectacular golf course. At 7,125 yards from the tournament tees, and with a series of strategically placed bunkers, both length and finesse are needed to score well on this historic course. The Blue Monster features long fairways, undulating green, a deep Bermuda rough and a unique assortment of water hazards. The famous 18th hole, with its signature fountain, was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World.
The Silver Fox Course
Donald J. Trump’s commitment to make epic changes at Trump National Doral will be complete as the Silver Fox is set to be the last of the incredible golf course renovation. The sensational Silver Fox course is one of the most demanding tests of golf in the country. Water comes into play on 16 of 18 holes, and it’s striking, marble-white sand bunkers dictate that only well-struck drives and approaches are rewarded. The Silver Fox features three of the longest consecutive holes to begin a nine in all of Florida and is home to the Bermuda Triangle, nickname for holes 6, 7 and 8 because so many balls go missing. Draped in a wall-to-wall carpet of Celebration Bermuda grass, the course is both beautiful to look at and visually intimidating. The narrow landing areas require a demanding game off the tee, yet the greens are true, fast and accessible, so for the golfer who is playing well, a good score is within reason. the last of the incredible golf course renovation.
Red Tiger Golf Course
The spectacular Red Tiger golf course, given its name by the late, great Jackie Gleason, just may have undergone the most dramatic change of any of the course renovations at Trump National Doral. Due to the talents of the Gil Hanse design team, the Red is an exciting challenge for the average golfer but also a surprising test for the more expert player. Set on just 120 acres, its primary design resembles a New England style course but the different varieties of palm trees throughout give it its distinctive South Florida personality. While the goal of every tee shot should be to take advantage of the gently contoured fairways, the subtle undulation of the small scaled greens require both bold and accurate shotmaking.
The GOLD Course
PGA Tour legend Raymond Floyd recently redesigned this course to follow a traditional Florida layout, incorporating gently contoured greens, strategic bunkering and water surrounding 16 holes. The course features narrow, tree-lined fairways and finishes with a dramatic par-4 island green on the 18th hole. This course hosted the 1999 PGA Qualifying School finals.
The MCLEAN Course
The Jim McLean Signature Course joins the infamous Blue Monster and the Great White as the third of Doral’s premier courses. It is unique among courses in the Southeast because it presents a variety of challenges that include three of the toughest starting holes in golf, a series of phenomenal par 3s, and “The Bermuda Triangle” of the 13th through 15th holes. Five sets of tees let golfers from novices to champions decide how difficult they want the course to be – but no matter where they start, they’ll have earned a real sense of accomplishment every time they finish.
