I recently came across a fantastic golf course that does not get much publicity. The Country Club of Johnston County located 1 mile off I-95 in North Carolina. It is a beautiful Ellis Maples Design. Ellis Maples designed golf courses in the mid to late 1960s. He is responsible for courses like Grandfather Mountain Country Club a Golf Digest Top 100 and the Country Club of North Carolina Dogwood course, a former Top 100 course.
The Country Club of Johnston County is home to PGA Tour journeyman Neil Lancaster. He still plays here during his time off and is welcoming to all who approach him. CCJC has all the aspects of classic golf course architecture. You will find crowned greens, false fronts, well-shaped green side bunkers, small greens with character, carefully placed fairway bunkers and two nine hole loops. The greens are Bermuda and are dormant during the winter months meaning they are quick.
I really enjoyed meeting their friendly staff. This golf course is the perfect spot for someone who is traveling either south to Florida for the winter or back to the Northeast for the summer. Their golf prices are fair $49 on weekends and $39 on weekdays. Whether you live in Raleigh and want 45 minute day trip to play some top notch golf or your traveling I-95 and you need a break to get some much need golf in; consider the Country Club of Johnston County featured on Tee-Links.co
