By all accounts, Phil Mickelson became the first player to win a major championship with out carrying a driver in his bag during the Open Championship 3 week ago. He will now have a second opportunity to win without a driver at this weeks PGA Championship.
Butch Harmon, Phil Mickelson’s swing coach said in response to a question about the driver,
“There’s just no room for it”
Instead, Phil Mickelson will carry the same 3-wood that won him the Open Championship at Muirfield, and 5 wedges including his 64 degree wedge.
Oak Hill is not a particularly long course measuring just 7,145 from the tips; but it is tight off the tee and has undulated Donald Ross style greens. Mickelson is the second favorite to win at 11-1 behind Tiger Woods at 7-2 and third is Adam Scott 16-1.
